Many individuals have reactions to the consumption of dietary gluten which is present in many grains and causes a wide range of symptoms, from direct damage to the gut wall affecting absorption of nutrients and causing significant abdominal symptoms in coeliac disease, to less severe but wide-ranging symptoms in individuals who do do not have coeliac disease but who still have an immune response to dietary gluten.
Delayed onset of symptoms can make it difficult to diagnose gluten sensitivity from dietary diaries/observations and testing for immunological reactions is recommended for these patients.
These profiles, as recommended by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, are immune panels to help distinguish between coeliac disease and non-coeliac gluten sensitivity.
