Indications:
Copper in the plasma is transported to the liver from the site of absorption in the gut by albumin. Most of the copper in plasma is present as the ferro-oxidase enzyme ceruloplasmin, which is a positive acute phase reactant and hence rises in concentration in the plasma during inflammation.
Copper plays a vital role in human health. It is involved in a wide range of bodily functions, including energy production, iron metabolism, collagen and bone formation, and immune system function. Adequate copper intake is crucial for maintaining overall health. Copper deficiency, though rare, can lead to a range of symptoms, including anaemia, bone weakness, impaired immune function, and neurological issues. Excessive copper intake can also be harmful, leading to liver damage, kidney problems, and digestive issues.
Copper absorption may be inhibited with zinc supplementation and copper levels increase with oestrogen levels.
