Macroprolactin is a large, biologically inactive complex formed when prolactin binds with an antibody (usually IgG) in the blood. While it is generally benign and causes no symptoms, it can cause false positives for high prolactin (hyperprolactinaemia) in lab tests, often leading to unnecessary, stressful diagnostic investigations.
