Indicans [IND]

Indications:
Indicans are a measure of the efficiency of protein digestion. Ineffective digestion of protein is typically the result of one or more of the following: overgrowth of harmful bacteria that feed off protein before it can be digested, insufficient HCL and/or protease enzymes, malabsorption, parastitic or fungal infections and food reactions.

Indicans are a metabolic byproduct (indol) of the action of intestinal bacteria on the amino acid tryptophan. The excretion of indols reflects bacterial activity in the small and large intestines.

Viva Health Laboratories’ Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) test is now considered a reliable alterative to urine indicans and is recommended.
