Hepatitis B ‘e’ antigen (HBeAg) indicates high viral replication and high infectivity, typically present during acute infection or early chronic infection. HBeAg positivity means the virus is multiplying rapidly. HBeAg seroconversion occurs when HBeAg becomes undetectable and HBeAg antibodies (anti-HBe or HBeAb) appear, signalling lower infectivity and reduced viral replication
