A chromosome analysis (karyotype) is a laboratory test that examines the number and structure of all 46 human chromosomes (23 pairs) in a sample of cells to detect genetic abnormalities. It produces a visual image, or Karyogram, used to identify missing, extra, or rearranged chromosomes responsible for conditions like Down syndrome, leukaemia, or infertility.
