Indications:

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is the key building block for its co-enzymatic forms flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) and flavin mononucleotide (FMN), of which FAD is the main form in body tissues. FAD levels are a reliable way of assessing vitamin B2 status and are reported in our results.

Vitamin B2 is required for carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, the electron transport (respiratory) chain, metabolism of drugs and toxins, and contributes to important antioxidant functions in the enzymes glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase & xanthine oxidase.

Humans can neither synthesize or store vitamin B2, so a regular dietary intake is essential to maintain adequate levels.  The UK National Diet and Nutrition Surveys have reported that vitamin B2 deficiency is the most frequently occurring B vitamin deficiency in the UK population.

Good dietary sources include milk and dairy products, eggs, meat (organ meat in particular), but most plant- and animal derived foods contain at least small amounts of this vitamin.
